Norumbega Park” is a novel about class and parental dreams, spirituality, the way visions conflict with reality, and a family’s ability to open up for others a world they could never fully grasp for themselves.

Born in Waltham and educated at Fordham University, Giardina is a novelist, short story writer, essayist and playwright.  A resident of Northampton, Giardina has taught at Smith and Mount Holyoke College, Colorado College, the University of Rochester, and in the MFA program at the University of Massachusetts. He is a regular Visiting Professor at the Michener Center of the University of Texas at Austin.  Giardina began his professional career as an actor and playwright. His other books are “Men with Debts,” “A Boy’s Pretensions,” “Recent History,” and “White Guys” as well as the story collection “The Country of Marriage.” His short fiction and essays have appeared in Harper’s, Esquire, GQ and The New York Times Magazine. His plays have been produced in New York and Washington, D.C., and at the Seattle Rep, Yale Rep, the Long Wharf in New Haven and the Cleveland Playhouse.   The Meet the Author series is co-sponsored by the library, the Friends of the Library, and Toad Hall Bookstore. The next program in the series will be on Wednesday, June 20, when William Landay will discuss his best-selling novel “Defending Jacob.” The programs are free and open to the public, and the library is handicapped accessible.
